ST3: STARCOURT MALL

Promotional Featurette

In Stranger Things 3, Starcourt Mall became the beating heart of Hawkins, Indiana, and one of the most ambitious set pieces ever built for the series. Transformed from a real, vacant mall in Georgia into a picture-perfect 1980s shopping center, Starcourt was more than a backdrop - it was a character in itself.

From neon-lit storefronts and bustling crowds to the retro lineup of Sam Goody, Waldenbooks, The Gap, and the beloved Scoops Ahoy, where Robin (Maya Hawke) and Steve (Joe Keery) served up ice cream and sarcasm in equal measure, every corner of the mall was alive with nostalgia.

For this Netflix promo, Dylan served as Cinematographer, employing 1980s-stylized camera techniques from awkward zooms to dutch angles - to maintain an authentic, period-specific 80s look. Every visual choice was designed to complement the retro sets, neon storefronts, and nostalgic energy of the mall, helping transport viewers back to the summer of 1985.
